Palak Garlic Butter Naan

Naan and Tandoori Roti is something I make quite often. Just that its easy and looks restaurant style and also a break from the regular chapatis.

As I was scrolling my post on Instagram I came across this really interesting recipe of Palak Naan, courtesy i_got_hangryy. It seemed quite unique and not something that I had made before. So, I created a small twist to it by smearing dollops of garlic butter and sprinkling kalonji over it…. and I had this whole new recipe, “Palak Garlic Butter Naan”. Its unique, super easy, healthy and delicious. What more do you want???????? Am in love with this !!!!!!

You just have to mix all the ingredients, let it rest for a few minutes and roll it into round or oval and cook it on a tawa….that’s how easy it is. Well, smearing it with garlic butter or just butter or neither is totally up to you.

I highly recommend cooking the naan on a cast iron tawa, as they taste so much better and also when you flip the tawa to char the roti it will fall off the tawa if its a non stick and moreover it will not give the naan kinda look to it.

Try making this “Palak Garlic Butter Naan” and it might just become your family favorite. And when you do make it just click a picture, upload it on Instagram and tag @tinas_kitchendiaries.

Enjoy!!!!

Buttery Homemade “Palak Garlic Butter Naan” – Its unique, super easy, healthy and delicious.

Ingredients

  • For Naan
  • 2 bunch palak/spinach

  • 2 green chilly

  • 1 inch ginger

  • 2 cups wheat flour

  • 1/2 tsp ajwain, carom seeds (optional)

  • salt to taste

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tsp kalonji, for garnish (optional)

  • For garlic butter
  • 2-3 tbsp soft butter

  • 5-6 garlic cloves

  • 1 tsp coriander leaves

Directions

  • In a large vessel heat enough water and blanch the palak.
  • Then strain out the water and let the palak cool down
  • Once cooled transfer the palak into a blender and make a smooth puree along with ginger and green chilly. Do not add any water.
  • In a wide vessel add in the wheat flour, ajwain, palak puree and salt to taste. Mix all till well combined. Add water little at a time and make a smooth, but not sticky dough.
  • Cover with a damp muslin cloth and rest for 10 mins,
  • Meanwhile make the garlic butter. Just mix all the ingredients mentioned under garlic butter and keep aside.
  • Now make medium sized balls and roll them to an oval or round shape.
  • Meanwhile keep the tawa for heating on medium to high heat.
  • Apply some water all over the naan and carefully place the naan on the heated tawa with the water side down. Let it cook on a low flame till you see bubbles all over.
  • Carefully flip the tawa so the top side of the naan touches the flame. Move the tawa around so the naan is evenly cooked and you see brown spots all over.
  • Turn the tawa and with the help of a spatula remove the naan into a serving plate.
  • Now put a generous helping of the garlic butter all over the naan, sprinkle some kaloji all over. Enjoy this Palak Garlic Butter Naan with your favourite curry!

Notes

  • With this proportion you can make 10-12 medium sized naan
  • You can totally skip the garlic butter instead use just plain butter or neither to keep it vegan .
