Make the easiest Sugar Cookie that’s both delicious and easy to make! Use this recipe to decorate your delicious sugar cookies for any occasion whether it’s Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines or just to have some baking fun!

What I call “Christmas Sugar Cookies” are nothing but simple vanilla biscuit cut out in Christmas shapes and iced with colourful festive icing.

One of the things that I love about this cookie dough is that it’s incredibly easy to throw together. I can usually mix up the dough in about 10 minutes. These cookies bake up perfect every single time, they don’t spread, and hold their shape…..which is exactly what we want:)

Adding the corn starch to the cookies makes it not to spread. It also makes the cookie tender and crisp, not chewy though.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO MAKE THR SUGAR COOKIES:

It takes only 4 ingredients to make the absolute best cut out sugar cookie icing that hardens to a shiny, glossy surface that’s durable enough to be stacked or wrapped.

The trick to getting sugar cookie icing to harden is in the ingredients…… powdered sugar, water, and corn syrup. The extract adds a boost of flavor. The small amount of corn syrup gives that shiny, glossy surface. Since there is no butter or fat in the icing recipe, the icing will harden similar to royal icing.

Adding food colour is the fun part, you can choose any colors you like and add as much or as little until you reach your desired color. Gel food coloring works best so you don’t add in too much extra liquid.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO MAKE THE ICING:

Pro Tips

  • It’s better to use unsalted butter and then add salt to the recipe. However, if you do use salted butter just skip adding salt.
  • Use soft butter and not melted butter as it will change the texture of the cookies.
  • I have used granulated sugar, you can however use powdered sugar as well.
  • Make sure to cream the butter and the sugar really well till the butter changes colour to whitish.
  • Do not roll out the dough too thin as the cookie will tend to break when icing them.
  • The powdered sugar used for the icing must be sieved so that there are no lumps
  • You can use warm milk instead of water for the icing mixture.
  • You will be able to find corn syrup easily in any baker supplies. Adding corn syrup to the mixture will make the icing shiny and glossy.
  • I have used vanilla extract; you can use any other extract of your choice.
  • While making the icing add more warm water or milk little at a time till you get a piping consistency.
  • You will have to be a little quick with the icing as it tends to solidify fast.
